Why you'll love it

From Ania: Before my son was born, I honestly through that a baby duvet would be a completely useless purchase (because according with AAP guidelines we would not use a lose blanket for sleep), but it turned out to be the most used baby item we have! My son loves loves loves his Gooselings Duvet! We use it to keep him warm in his stroller on a chilly evening walk, to cover him up in his car seat, as a play mat, as a fluffy cozy cover after a bath, and the list continues. At some point, he would only nap while in our arms in his Gooselings duvet... which prompted us to want to get "give of these and stash them in every corner of the house" - we only got one extra one, but we wanted five :) Our blanket lasted well through endless wash cycles and I continue to get compliments on it every time we go out with it. Gooselings duvet is definitely an investment, but it is soooo worth it!

DOWN INSERTS

Machine Washing: When necessary, simply wash the duvet in ‘Hot water’ (140°F). It is best to use a gentle detergent that re-moisturizes the down. Use approximately 1/3 of the normal amounts of detergent you would use—your detergent should be enzyme-free.

Drying: Spin-dry and dry in the tumble dryer as always with wool dryer balls (or tennis balls work as well). Shake out the duvet. If it smells dry and fresh, it’s ready to be used again.

Good Habits: For your duvet to retain its fluffy feel for many years, please make sure to air it out as often as you can. Then the down will redistribute itself and feel as light and wonderful as usual. Here and there, it is a good idea to just put the duvet in a tumble-dryer to remove moisture—the duvet will restore to its purest form.

COTTON COVERS (BABY DUVET COVER, TODDLER DUVET COVER, TODDLER PILLOWCASE, CRIB SHEET, TWIN DUVET COVER SET, TWIN FITTED SHEET)

Machine Washing:  Wash inside out at warm temperature with like colors.

Drying: Tumble dry at a low setting.

Good Habits: Launder before first use. Treat stains in a timely manner.

Why it's useful

  • Versatility: carrying your baby, keeping her warm in a stroller or car seat, or laying something out for a picnic
  • Swaddling: thin receiving blankets are especially useful for swaddling newborns and young infants (find out more from Leleki’s guide on swaddles / receiving blankets)
  • Important! Do not use loose blankets to cover sleeping babies who are <12 months old; this increases risk of suffocation.

What to consider

Materials:

  • Softness: should be soft on a baby’s skin.
  • Warmth: Make sure to have a few different levels of warmth, since it’s important for your baby to not get overheated or catch a chill.
  • GOTS or OEKO-TEX Certification: We recommend getting GOTS or OEKO-TEX certified blankets made from natural materials to minimize the risk of dermal exposure to harsh chemicals. Read more here [link].
  • Important! We recommend pre-washing all textile baby items before using to minimize the chance that any residual chemicals or packing dust don’t irritate your baby’s skin.

Things to avoid:

  • Buttons or small attachments: (e.g. ribbons, tassels, etc) that can become loose and pose a choking risk
  • Long ribbons or strands: these can pose a strangulation risk to your baby.

How many to get

We recommend starting with four: two lightweight blankets and two warmer ones. That way, you’ll have a backup in case of a mess and you can see what’s most useful for your baby’s needs.
